Born into the Dazkar tribe who were famed for their archery skills, Alyssa was raised from birth to become one of the tribe's hunters. However, unlike the rest of her tribesman, she had weak and frail arms that prevented her from being able to pull back on a bow.Marked as a disgrace by the rest of the tribe, she was given the same work the rest of the males of the tribe did until one day when some Hingan traders arrived in the Steepe carrying guns from manufactured by the Garlond Ironworks.Having saved up a small fortune since the tribe was self-dependent, she brought one such gun from the traders without the tribe's knowledge and sneaked into one of their weekly hunts, hoping to show that she can be useful to them.This backfires when she fails to realize the extent of her aether pool, leading her to put in too much aether into the gun and setting off an extremely loud bang when fired. This subsequently leads to a stampede from the local mammoth population that ends up killing several of the hunters.Sent into exile as a result of her actions, Alyssa is sent into the wider world of Eorzea all by herself. Now, alone with nothing but the gun she acquired from the traders by her side, she seeks to carve out a new life for herself and hopefully be able to repent for the tragedy she caused.
